Califone Introduces First USB Headset for Schools

New headset decreases chance of interrupted audio enabling students to accurately learn language fluency and comprehension

With the explosion of wireless devices and ever-smaller and -sleeker computing devices, plug-ins and ports have become a significant issue for schools. Some computer anufacturers like Apple have discontinued installing conventional plugs in favor of USB ports, because data can be transferred more quickly. For schools, this means giving students the ability to do more in less time for maximum learning capability. In response to the changing market and the needs of schools, Califone, Inc., the premier manufacturer of quality audio technology for the education market, announces the introduction of its 4100-USB headset, the first headset specifically designed for school use to utilize USB 2 technology.

With this advanced audio solution from Califone, schools can download internet-based audio—including tutorials, music and games—faster and more efficiently, giving students more time to learn. Direct USB connectivity means no sound card is needed. Offering true plug and play performance, the USB headsets are supported under Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP and under Mac OS 9 or X.

As with all Califone products, the 4100-USB headset is designed specifically for instructional use with rugged durability and easy maintenance in mind. With features like reinforced connectors, adjustable headband and foam-filled replaceable ear cushions, the Califone USB Headset is built to withstand students pulling on cords and constant use in multiple classrooms or in school libraries. The attached boom microphone lends an added measure of versatility for spoken word and language applications in schools.

The flow of audio has a direct effect on a student’s ability to comprehend language and speak fluently,” said Terry Soley, president of Califone. “Our USB Headset greatly decreases the chance of interrupted audio streaming, which disrupts student learning.” In foreign language labs and literacy labs, for instance, the exchange between students listening to audio and responding with spoken word can happen at a faster rate, much closer to the rate of real conversations, than with non-USB headsets. Students can hear new vocabulary with crisper, cleaner sound and without long moments of silence or static feedback.

Califone was founded in 1946 and continues to be a leader in the design, development and manufacturing of audiovisual and supplemental curriculum products for use in education, presentation and professional markets. The company offers a complete line of audio solutions, wireless systems and multimedia products for small, medium and large presentation needs. Califone serves millions of educators and children in the PreK through higher education school environments and has expanded to serve business and industry, houses of worship, parks and recreation and other presentation markets as well.
