Califone Using Diggiditto DC596 for VoiceThread
One of the more accessible and creative but secure online tools for student (and teacher) collaboration is VoiceThread. If you’re not familiar with it, VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to navigate slides and leave comments in 5 ways – using voice (with a headphone with a built-in mic, telephone or document camera), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam or document camera). Its ease of use enables group conversations around documents, images and videos.
One other way to engage students with VoiceThread is in conjunction with the Diggiditto™ DC596 document camera, whose built-in microphone enables the same individual or group participation. The DC596 offers the ability to capture images which can be incorporated into presentations and shared with other students in another part of the world.
The captured images can be saved onto a computer so that it can be uploaded into a VoiceThread program, which allows students to create stories using images, audio, and video for others to see online. The web-based application provides your students with the ability to have group conversations and engage in digital story-telling. Among its many uses, the versatility of the DC596 goes beyond image capture to excite visionary students who show an interest in making movies. The built-in microphone on the DC596 aids in movie creation filled with sound and video.
