Wireless Headphone Use for Diverse Learning
When trying to assemble audio equipment to supplement your lesson plan, sometimes it’s in the little details that can make all the difference in empowering your students during the learning process.
Case in point: USB ports on PC and/or MAC computers can work to your advantage when a tech tool and audio equipment are used simultaneously. If you have a select group of students gathered around a computer so they can follow along to an audio recording for an assignment, it’d probably be better if they had wireless headphones on so as not to disturb the rest of the students in class. With wireless headphones, multiple students can comfortably use a single computer without having to deal with cords that could become tangled. The infrared HIR-KT1 wireless headphones use its transmitter that can be plugged directly into a computer’s USB port so the headphones can function within a 20’ line of sight range. If additional ports are needed then you can add the USB Hub into the mix and use a separate USB port to plug in the Diggiditto™ DC596 document camera to play back a video recording of a lecture for students who were absent. A movie project recorded with the DC596 by one student team can be reviewed by their peers as they listen in with the infrared headphones.
That USB transmitter can prove to be quite handy outside of the computer domain as well. As cords can be distracting while students are at a computer station so too can they detract attention from students learning how to read as they listen to an audio book or digital recordings through a multimedia player. If not an audio book, students who are learning about classical music can do so in a quiet environment while wearing the infrared headphones. Integrating the HIR-TX1 and USB Hub along with the PA419 into your curriculum to play music for music students can help them finely tune their ability to recognize different sounds and instruments as they maintain an absolute focus on what they hear.
So no matter the goals of your differentiated learning group, wireless headphones can help you and them.
